Globes in a classic elegant design have a traditional map image with blue seas and a no-frills (metal) foot, as well as shading which gives the cartography a three-dimensional appearance.

The shading serves to represent the Earth’s surface relief without requiring a real three-dimensional effect. This globe design consciously forgoes unnatural colours and represents the Earth's surface with as much information as possible.
